Showing or Working? How soon do you decide?

I have dogs for show - I have dogs for work. Obviously I do not mix the two as I keep their coats different and the breed I work would not work efficiently in a show coat. For the responsible breeders out there who also show and work, do you have an idea in your head before the litter is born, or even before you plan a litter, on whether you are currently looking for a new show or work dog? I only ask as a fellow worker has just had their second litter and told me she had already decided to take two "workers" out of the litter before they were even born. This is her second litter from one b***h, not second litter in all. She is certainly a lot more experienced than myself and is, as you guys would say, my "mentor". I ess my litter once they are born for who shall work or show and find it hard to believe that she could have decided this without even seeing the pups. Admittedly, she has turned out champions in both fields and has fantastic lines for both but I fail to see how she can accurately make this judgement?
